Get the facts before you move.  The more you know about real estate, the more you’ll know if this is a wise career move for you.  Another option for “testing the water” before leaving your current job is to obtain your real estate license and then have Coldwell Banker United, Realtors® hold your license for you.  You can send referrals to the company and earn a referral commission when the transaction is complete.  Continued education is required to keep your license active.

What should you expect when you’re starting out?
In real estate, you are your own boss, running your own business with some upfront expenses.  Don’t expect a paycheck for the first few months.  Real Estate Sales Associates are paid on a commission basis and it takes time to establish and build your customer base.

What does it cost to get into the business?
Typically you can expect to invest about $1,400 to $2,000 during the first 60 to 90 days to cover your licensing, marketing materials, Board of REALTORS® and Multiple Listing Service dues and other efforts, depending on how aggressively you want to launch your career.

What type of license do I need?
You will need to have a Real Estate License in order to practice real estate.  License requirements and avenues to get your license vary by location and by state.  In all cases you will be required to take a state exam and complete a license application.  Contact us and we can walk you through the steps based on the location where you want to conduct your business.

How much income can I expect to make?
The amount you make really depends on you.  Highs and lows are part of any sales career – some months will be higher producing than others.  Don’t expect a paycheck for the first few months.  Real Estate Sales Associates are paid on a commission basis and it takes time to establish and build your customer base.  Also, be sure to allow for ongoing costs.  Just like running any business there are costs associated with growing and maintaining your customer base.

What type of person does well in real estate?

Are there part-time opportunities in real estate?
